Leading Disability Services organization taking award-winning Lawn and Landscaping social venture to new markets
Austin, TX – Easterseals Central Texas was again recognized for innovation drawing attention and investment at the first Philanthropitch International fast pitch event September 10 at the Westin Domain. The event was sponsored by BuildASign and Social Venture Partners International.
Much like the popular television show Shark Tank, Philanthropitch International is a fast pitch forum for the best social innovators across the U.S. and Canada. Easterseals Central Texas, along with nine other finalists, had three minutes each to pitch their organizations for various cash prizes. Easterseals Central Texas proposed an expansion of their innovative social venture; Easterseals Lawn and Landscape Services, which helps put people with disabilities to work at a residential landscaping business. In addition to Austin, the competition included local winners from Calgary, Seattle, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Charlotte.
Easterseals Central Texas was awarded $13,500, which was the Impact Award, the largest cash prize of the evening, bringing total fast pitch winnings for the social venture to $101,500.
Tod Marvin, President and CEO of Easterseals Central Texas made the pitch. “It was incredibly nerve-wracking and exhilarating all at the same time. Competition at this level was fierce. There are so many amazing non-profits doing great work and we are proud to be among them,” he says. “When you consider the fact that only 2 out of 10 people with disabilities are employed, you can begin to understand why we’re committed to aggressively expanding job opportunities for these folks. At Easterseals, we’re wholly committed to making that happen.” Expansion is planned for Fort Worth, TX and Cincinnati, OH.
